Dorset Golf Captains Founded 1971


Designation

The name shall be 'The Dorset Golf Captains'.

Membership

Membership is open to all Captains, past & present, of the Dorset Golf Union and of golf clubs affiliated to the Dorset Golf Union.

Subscription

The subscription for Life Membership shall be £30, which shall be payable at the time of application and will include the provision of a Dorset Captains' tie. The Committee shall review the rate of subscription from time to time.

Management

The affairs of Dorset Golf Captains shall be conducted by a Committee comprising: a President, a Vice President, a Captain, a Vice Captain, the Immediate Past Captain, an Hon. Secretary, an Hon. Treasurer, an Hon. Clothing Organiser, an Hon. Fixtures Secretary, an Hon. Dinner Organiser and an Hon. Events organiser. All members shall be elected at the Annual General Meeting with the President and Vice President serving two years.

The Committee

shall be empowered to co-opt additional members to the Committee as may be appropriate. The President shall normally chair the Committee where the quorum shall be three.

A General Meeting

shall be held annually, with the provision of on-line voting for members to vote on Agenda items for at least 7 days in the 14 day period before the General Meeting date. If a member who has voted on-line should attend the General Meeting, his on-line votes shall be disregarded and any vote he makes in person shall be accepted. Twenty voting members who have voted on-line or are present in person shall be a quorum and the President shall be in the chair.

The Committee

may at any time convene a Special General Meeting. Twelve members may also call a Special General Meeting, subject to due notice being given. No proposition shall be entertained at a General Meeting or Special General Meeting unless the terms thereof have been intimated in writing to the Hon Secretary at least 21 days prior to the General Meeting and the Hon Secretary has given 14 days’ notice to all members.

Club Representatives

A member from each Club will be nominated to become the local contact and act as follows:

  • to ensure that past and present Captains of their Club are aware of Dorset Golf Captains and its purpose
  • to keep the Hon Secretary up to date on relevant information on their past Captains
  • as required to assist the Hon Secretary in the distribution of information to the members in their Club
  • as required to assist the Hon Secretary and Committee in organising events at their Club
  • to promote participation in the Colin Chataway Trophy by their Club through contact with the Clubs Junior Organiser

Matches & Events

Matches, events or meetings to be played in the name of The Dorset Golf Captains shall be arranged only with the approval of the Committee.

Handicaps

The Committee will not allot handicaps. When playing in matches, events or meetings, current club handicap must be used.

Alteration of Rules

No proposition involving any alteration of the Rules or Constitution of The Dorset Golf Captains shall be adopted unless it obtains the concurrence of two thirds of the members voting on-line or present at a General Meeting.
